How much time should I spend practicing soccer?


The goal for most parents is that their children stay healthy and active.  You achieve this by drinking plenty of water, and eating a rich diet filled with fruits and vegetables.  Also, daily exercise is a must. 

In fact, the CDC recommends that children and adolescents ages 6 through 17 years should do 60 minutes (1 hour) or more of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity at least three days each week.  Playing a sport like soccer is an excellent way to achieve this and have fun too. 

Some people, however, enjoy the sport so much that they even aspire to play in college or pro. In this case, you must practice and play soccer almost every day beyond what is available during team training.

But this raises the question, "How much time should you spend on daily soccer practice?"  Well, let us find out.

1. The first thing that we all should understand and remember is that practice is the only key to success in anything you do, and so is the case with soccer. It would help if you practiced daily with planned breaks.

2. While team training is important, you also must focus on individual training.

3. You must build the habit of training with and/or without a trainer.

4. Research has shown that 20 minutes of intensive individual training is good enough if it’s combined with quality team training and free play.

5. Keep the following points in mind while training:

·          Keep challenging yourself so that you improve your skills.

·          Try new things. Do not go back because you are afraid of failure.

·          In the 20 minutes of individual training, be completely committed and focused.

6. Have rest days –once or twice a week. It is essential to give time to your body to rest, heal from any injuries and rejuvenate too.
